Faustina Senior, wife of Antoninus Pius (died c.141CE)

Faustina Senior (died c.141CE). Annia Galeria Faustina was the wife of Antoninus Pius whom she married sometime between 110 and 115, and mother of Annia Galeria Faustina Minor, usually referred to as Faustina Junior or Faustina II, future wife of the Emperor Marcus Aurelius. Empress Faustina was renowned for her wisdom and beauty, and well-respected, assisting in various charities and children's education, especially those of girls. After her death sometime late in 140 or early 141, she was deified, and various commemorative coinage were struck in her honor. The Temple of Faustina in the Roman Forum, and perhaps the huge marble head found in Sagalassos, Turkey, were built in her honor.
